Last month, AMGA shared key diabetes research at the American Diabetes Association’s 78th Scientific Sessions in Orlando, Florida. Elizabeth Ciemins, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.A., director of research and analytics for AMGA, gave a podium presentation on overcoming clinical inertia in diabetes care. Her research explores how and why healthcare providers fail to initiate and escalate therapy, often for patients who need it most.
According to the research by AMGA Analytics, more than one in ten patients with uncontrolled diabetes had no therapy change within two years, despite an office visit. Additionally, minority patients and patients with low-income insurance were less likely to receive appropriate medication escalation. Read more about this research and the potential causes of clinical inertia here.
At the meeting, Dr. Ciemins also presented AMGA Analytics’ findings on gaps in Type 2 diabetes screening.
