Novo Nordisk Joins National Effort to Improve Diabetes Management with AMGA Foundation
Together 2 Goal® Aims to Improve the Lives of 1 Million People with Type 2 Diabetes

ALEXANDRIA, VA - The AMGA Foundation announced today that Novo Nordisk, Inc. awarded $1.5 million to support its national campaign, Diabetes: Together 2 Goal®. This three-year initiative will challenge leading healthcare organizations to work together to transform diabetes care for millions across the country. With this generous contribution, Novo Nordisk, Inc. will be featured as the campaign’s Presenting Corporate Collaborator.

Together 2 Goal® aims to improve care for 1 million people with Type 2 diabetes. To date, over 100 AMGA members have committed to implementing at least one of the “campaign planks”-11 evidence-based care processes-that will improve the care of people with the condition by empowering patients, improving care delivery, and leveraging information technology. Additionally, campaign participants will report data on a quarterly basis to measure progress towards this goal and utilize the campaign’s resources and tools to achieve this mark.

“We’re pleased to be a part of this significant program, as physicians are on the front lines of helping patients with this serious disease,” said Todd Hobbs, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Novo Nordisk US. “Being a part of this AMGA Foundation initiative is important for us, as we know firsthand how devastating diabetes can be and how challenging it is to manage.”

Together 2 Goal® is the second campaign in the AMGA Foundation’s Chronic Care Challenge. In the first campaign, Measure Up/Pressure Down®, nearly 150 AMGA members worked together to improve blood pressure detection or control for more than half a million Americans. The Together 2 Goal® campaign will leverage this momentum and success to improve care for 1 million people with Type 2 diabetes.

The campaign formally launched today in Orlando, Florida during the AMGA 2016 Annual Conference. This extraordinary event featured keynote speaker Sugar Ray Leonard – Olympic athlete, world champion boxer, and diabetes advocate - who provided remarks and expressed his support for the campaign’s efforts to “knock out” this disease. Anna Windle, Ph.D., Executive Director, Medical Affairs at Novo Nordisk, Inc., provided comments and presented the campaign with a check. Representatives from hundreds of AMGA medical groups and health systems from across the country were in attendance at this premiere event.

Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems, Inc. and Optum (Principal Corporate Collaborators), Merck and Sanofi (Contributing Corporate Collaborators), and DC Department of Health (Corporate Collaborator) join Novo Nordisk, Inc. as campaign corporate collaborators. Campaign partners and supporting organizations include: American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American Association of Diabetes Educators, American College of Physicians, American Diabetes Association, American Kidney Fund, Behavioral Diabetes Institute, DiabetesSisters, HealthyWomen, and Men’s Health Network.
